Spider-Rama: Marvel Team-Up #21

Welcome to Spider-Rama! Every Monday and Wednesday, Ben and Duy will look at a Spider-Man issue from the very beginning, in chronological order, and answer questions for various categories, inspired in large part by one of our favorite podcasts, The Rewatchables by The Ringer. Our goal is to make it to Amazing Spider-Man #200. Will we make it? Grab your Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus or crank up your tablet to Marvel Unlimited, and then tune in every Wednesday to find out!

MARVEL TEAM-UP #21
by Len Wein, Sal Buscema, Frank Giacoia, D. Hunt

Spider-Man and Dr. Strange vs. Xandu, because this is a thing that always happens.

POINTLESS TRIVIA

DUY: Spider-Man and Dr. Strange fighting Xandu first happened in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #2 and will continue to happen forever.

WHAT'S AGED THE BEST?

BEN: Sal Buscema’s art looks great considering he’s relatively new.

DUY: Xandu spends the issue trying to save Melinda Morrison for a sleep resembling death, but then ... "Not a sleep resembling death, but a death resembling sleep" is a great line and a pretty cool twist ending.

BEN: That ending was pretty heavy.

WHAT'S AGED THE WORST?

BEN: Ugh. Xandu.

DUY: Always Xandu. These guys fell in love with that annual where Spidey and Strange teamed up and thought that the only reason they have for getting them together is Xandu. Every time.

NITPICKS

DUY: Why is there yet another mind control plot?

BEN: It’s a trip man, it’s the ‘70s.

FAVORITE PANEL

BEN: Mine:

DUY: Mine:

WHO WON THE COMIC?

DUY: I'm gonna go with Sal on this one.

BEN: Again, Sal’s work is recognizably Sal already.
