Spider-Rama: Amazing Spider-Man #105

Welcome to Spider-Rama! Every weekday until the end of May, Ben and Duy will look at a Spider-Man issue from the very beginning, in chronological order, and answer questions for various categories, inspired in large part by one of our favorite podcasts, The Rewatchables by The Ringer. Our goal is to make it to Amazing Spider-Man #200. Will we make it? Grab your Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus or crank up your tablet to Marvel Unlimited, and then tune in every Wednesday to find out!

by Stan Lee, Gil Kane, and Frank Giacoia

J. Jonah Jameson almost incites a riot, gets pulled out by Spider-Man, and goes after him with a brand-new Spider-slayer.

DUY: Stan Lee's back.

BEN: Flash Thompson returns for good.

DUY: Well, that was a quick tour of duty.

BEN: They discharged him for always being on leave.

BEN: A villain abusing electronic surveillance was way ahead of its time. I guess, I’m not researching it.

DUY: Gratuitous shirtless shots, ala the MCU.

BEN: I can’t tell if Randy Robertson protesting his own father’s newspaper aged well or not.

DUY:  I think it aged well. Generational divides are starker nowI'm actually not sure what didn't age well here. Even JJJ firing back at the protestors is very Trump-like.

Shouldn’t Peter’s spider sense have warned him not to unmask?

DUY: I guess, but technically a camera isn't an actual danger.

BEN: It is if someone is spying on you.

DUY: Words of wisdom. There's taking the system out from the outside, and there's fixing it. Robbie is awesome:

DUY: I will say Gil Kane, mainly because this is actually a fairly well-drawn issue and I'm used to his art not being good.

BEN: I’ll say spider slayers, because I hated them as a kid.

DUY: That's it for Spider-Rama this week.

BEN: Thank you, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko—

DUY: —for telling us we aren't the only ones.
