Spider-Rama: Amazing Spider-Man #103

Welcome to Spider-Rama! Every weekday until the end of May, Ben and Duy will look at a Spider-Man issue from the very beginning, in chronological order, and answer questions for various categories, inspired in large part by one of our favorite podcasts, The Rewatchables by The Ringer. Our goal is to make it to Amazing Spider-Man #200. Will we make it? Grab your Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus or crank up your tablet to Marvel Unlimited, and then tune in every Wednesday to find out!

WHAT'S AGED THE BEST?

BEN: If JJJ thought TV was a problem, wait until he sees the Internet.

DUY: Does this age well or badly? I want to say well, but unfortunately so.

BEN: I would say it’s unfortunately still true, so yeah, both.

WHAT'S AGED THE WORST?

BEN: This is the worst written Jameson we’ve seen yet.

DUY: JJJ is a full-on perv.

BEN: As a kid, I thought quicksand was going to be a much bigger problem in everyday life.

DUY: You know how every "how to draw" guide ever says you need to use building blocks or shapes to start a drawing? You're supposed to erase those when you're done, and Gil Kane draws like everything is a building block.

BEN: He’s so blocky, I agree.

NITPICKS

BEN:
Really Peter, you have no excuse to give Gwen for your absence?

DUY: There's no way Gwen just takes Peter's lack of an excuse, either. That's somehow the most unrealistic part of this whole thing.

FAVORITE PANEL

BEN:
 Why pretend otherwise:

DUY: Too bad it wasn't Romita.

BEN: Is this the first time we’ve seen a character drawn so “revealing?”

DUY: I'm certain of it.

BEN: The times, they are a-changin'.

WHO WON THE COMIC?

DUY: Gwen stans, because Peter's intentions are pretty clear.

DOES ROBBIE KNOW?

DUY: It looks like he doesn't here.

BEN: Maybe he’s trying to protect his secret.

DUY: That's it for Spider-Rama this week.

BEN: Thank you, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko—

DUY: —for telling us we aren't the only ones.
